Dayton says Minnesota can likely get a Real ID extension if needed

Gov. Mark Dayton wants to allay Minnesotans’ fears that they won’t be able to board an airplane come October.

Dayton sent a letter Thursday to Reps. Paul Torkelson, R-Hanska, and Dennis Smith, R-Maple Grove, outlining what state officials are doing so residents will have a smooth transition to using federally mandated Real IDs. The legislators asked Dayton in February to request an extension to an upcoming Oct. 10 federal deadline.
