St. Paul shooting suspect eludes police after 80 mph chase, SWAT deployment

After a 23-year-old shot and wounded a man in St. Paul and led police on a chase that reached 80 mph another day, officers took no chances when they tried to arrest him Monday, according to criminal charges and police.

A SWAT team spent hours outside a Dayton’s Bluff residence, calling the man to come outside and surrender. But it turned out he wasn’t there, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.
