Arthur "Butch" Carlson Jr., age 79, of Richfield journeyed to the Spirit World on February 13, 2018.

Butch was born on January 8, 1939 to Arthur and Esther (Corbine) Carlson in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Minneapolis and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1958. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps in 1961, Butch returned to Minneapolis and worked for Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad Company for 30 years.

He married Mardella Oakgrove in July 1967 in Redby, MN.

Butch is survived by son Troy Palthen; daughters Teri Palthen, Gina Carlson, Sarah Carlson and Yvette Yellow; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother John Carlson; sisters Rosalie Ness, Mary Martinez and Laurie Carlson; other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Esther Carlson; son Jeffrey Carlson; sister Edna Weber; and grandson Dominic Corbett.

Funeral services for Butch Carlson will be Friday, February 16, 2018 at 1:00 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3044 Longfellow Avenue, Minneapolis. Robert Two Bulls will officiate. Interment at Hillside Cemetery.

An all-night wake will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 beginning at 5 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Honorary casketbearers are John Carlson, Troy Palthen, Eddie Martinez, John Drouillard, Zulianna Speltz and Nicole Kruse.

Caskebearers are Michale Reese, Johnathon Carlson, Marcus Carlson, Justin Padilla, William Lussier and Jeffrey Lussier.
