ND parents upset after scorekeeper's perceived jab at visiting team on scoreboard

LANGDON, N.D. (Valley News Live) A scorekeeper's jab at a visiting team girls basketball team has some parents and players upset.

It happened at a middle school basketball game in Langdon Thursday night.

During warm-ups of a 7th grade girls' basketball game, a scorekeeper put this on the scoreboard.

One mom of the Ojibwa Eagles said the Eagles coach was trying to distract the girls so they wouldn’t see it, but some already did.

One mom said her daughter wanted to cry after seeing it, which made the mom upset.

They changed it after warm-ups to their correct name.

Langdon Area Schools issued this statement on the schools facebook page:

"It has been brought to our attention that there is a picture circulating online showing our scoreboard displaying an unfortunate name at tonight’s Junior High Girls Basketball Tournament game where our Cardinals were playing the Eagles. The incident captured occurred during warmups between games. Our scoreboard operator keyed in Eagles where Woodchucks had been on the scoreboard in the previous game assuming it would replace the entire name. It only replaced the first six letters leaving uck at the end of Eagles. Upon recognition, we removed the name. This was a mistake that was made, it was not a prank. We apologize for this mistake. No disrespect was intended and we will take precautions to prevent something like this from happening again."
