Marissa Joline Blacklance. "Wakinyan Waste Win" (Good Lightning Woman) was born December 14, 1994 and journeyed into the Spirit World on January 20, 2018.

Marissa is a beautiful soul, bigger than life and a heart full of love and compassion for her son, family, as well as her Dakota people. She would be the first to help anybody that was in need of it with a smile and a determination like no other to get it done. She could ride, run, walk and pray with all that a Native woman has to give so that her people could live.

Marissa graduated from Riverside Indian School in Andarko, OK in the top six of her

class out of over two hundred students. She came home to go on to Minnesota Community and Technical College to get her RN where she worked at one or two nursing homes in the Granite Falls and Redwood Falls area. Marissa was a water protector in every sense of the word. She and her son "Unktomi" spent time on the front lines of Standing Rock in 2016. She was a Horse rider of the 38+2 Memorial ride for the past four or five years. It was there, as well as many places, she went she bring her charismatic and infectious bright smile, laugh and strong spirit. She had to power to make life long bonds with people that will last a life time.

Marissa is survived by her son Kaylor John Reyas Blacklance; mother April M Flute; father Virgil E. Blacklance (Shannon Timm Blacklance); grandmothers Roberta Flute and Alberta Jackson; brothers Albert Blacklance Hoksida Blacklance Maurice Lufkins Silas White Buffalo Dwight White Buffalo Jr.; sisters Danielle Lufkins, Wicanhpi Winyan EchoHawk, Lina "Ashnii Kwe" Mountain.

She will be missed!

Funeral service for Marissa Blacklance will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Upper Sioux Multi-Purpose Building. Chief Arvol Looking Horse will officiate. Big Eagle Creek and Midnight Express will be the Drum Groups. Interment at Yellow Medicine Nation Cemetery.

An all-night wake will be held Wednesday, January 24th beginning at 7:00 PM at the Upper Sioux Multi-Purpose Building.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be all her family and friends.

Casket Bearers will be Albert V. Mountain, Marcus Nickaboine, Tommy Dean Flute, Ricco Uribe Jr., Hoksida Mountain and Mel Berry.

Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, MN served the family.
