Janet Marie Thomas, "Makoons" which means "Little Bear Cub", 71 years young, of Ponemah, Minnesota began her journey to the spirit world on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. She was born to Katherine (Cloud) and Murphy Thomas, Sr. on December 15, 1946 in Ponemah, MN.

Janet grew up and lived in Ponemah for most of her life. She loved to visit friends and family and doing word finds. Janet loved life and her family and friends. She went to elementary school in Ponemah and then moved to Utah where she graduated from high school. Janet worked for Housing Finance in Red Lake for a number of years before going to work at the Woman's Shelter in Red Lake. She then worked for the Ponemah School for a short time before retiring.

Family welcoming Janet to the spirit world are her husband; James Kingbird, her parents; brothers; Robert Thomas and Richard Cloud, nephews; Murphy Thomas III and Keith Braddock and cousins; Barbara and Rita Cloud.

She is survived by her sons; Thomas and Cameron Hardy, two sisters; Barbara Thomas and Frances Miller, two brothers; Murphy Thomas, Jr. and Arnold Pelly, numerous friends and family and her special furry companion Daisy.

A wake for Janet will begin at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 12th and continue until her traditional service at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, January 14th all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN. Zach Mitteness will be her Spiritual Leader. Pallbearers for Janet will be Daryl Raincloud, Wayne Johnson, Jr., Gerald Stillday, Bob Natewa, Barney Thomas, Gary M. Johnson, Makwam Thomas and Makoons Thomas. Alternate pallbearers are Mike Spears and Ole Spears. Her honorary pallbearers are Dorothy Cobenais, Virginia White, Jo Carter-Dudley, Lenetta Jourdain, Mary Head and Nancy Johnson. Interment will be in the Kingbird Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah Point, MN following her services on Sunday.
