Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grants Awarded in FY2018

The Region 2 Arts Council (R2AC) awarded $4,728 through the Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) Program. Monies awarded are for arts activities related to its mission of supporting, maintaining, and promoting traditional and contemporary Native American arts in North Central Minnesota. The Anishinaabe Arts Initiative grants program is supported by a grant from the McKnight Foundation.

Gordeaux Lafleur, Red Lake, was awarded $999 to purchase an air compressor to facilitate creation of his original airbrush designs.

Paula Littlewolf, Mahnomen, received $1,000 to create fine arts prints of her paintings as well as matting and display materials for exhibition of her work.

Frederick Fisher, Bemidji, was awarded $1,000 to purchase a printer to print his original works of art directly on t-shirts.

Judy Toppings, Waubun, received $829 to purchase equipment, materials, and supplies for her project Ogitchidaa/Ogitchidaakwe to make Warrior Quilts telling the stories of veterans.

Bryan Belgarde, Deer River, received $900 to purchase an airbrush, compressor, paints, and t-shirts to create original wearable art.
