Doris Jean Yankton, age 73, of Granite Falls, MN journeyed to the Spirit World on December 16,

2017. She was born on August 27, 1944 in Fort Totten, North Dakota the daughter of Michael Yankton and Josephine Goodhouse. Doris grew up is Sisseton, South Dakota with her grandmother, Martha, mother, Josephine, and her sister, Joanne. Doris attended the Wahpeton Indian School were she became a gymnast. After graduating she met her former husband, Gerald Schmaus, they lived in St. Paul, MN for over 30 years. Doris then met her companion, Russell Trottier. In 1999, they moved to Granite Falls and remained living there for 18 years. Doris loved making Ragalia for her grandchildren, teaching her children and grandchildren native traditions and spiritual beliefs, participating in Wacipis all over the state, spending time with family and friends, going to the casino and playing practical jokes. She was very proud of her sobriety, being alcohol free for over 20 years . She will be loved and missed by many family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Mandel Yankton, Erwin Rendon, Ben Schmaus, Kip Yankton, Celia Rendon and LaNelle Enney; and brother: Richard Yankton.

Preceded in death by her grandparents; parents: Michael Yankton and Josephine Goodhouse; daughters: Cerrina Schmaus and LaSonia Gonoska; and grandson: Mandel Joseph Yankton Jr. and by her sister Joanne Yankton.
