Warriors drop third in a row with loss to Fertile-Beltrami 73-69 at NCTC Tournament

THIEF RIVER FALLS - The Warriors were looking for their first win of the season on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, having lost to Blackduck and Fosston about a week ago, as they battled it out with Fertile-Beltrami in the first round of the NCTC Tournament. This game was originally scheduled for Monday, but bad weather put the game a day behind.

Red Lake led early in the match 3-2 in the first quarter, then trailed by 13-3 after a run by Fertile-Beltrami. By the half the Warriors were up 41-38.

It was close pretty much all the way in the second half, with the Warriors leading 66-60 with about 4 minutes to go. But the Falcons went on a run to overtake the lead, then held on for the win 73-69.

Kendall Whitefeather led the Warriors with 21 points, five of which were 3-pointers, Justin Barrett had 14, Andre Harrison added 11 and David Smith 10.

Fertile-Beltrami had 3 players in double figures and shot 17-30 from the freethrow line, as well as 24 turnovers.

Red Lake was 8-16 from the freethrow line, along with 19 turnovers on the night.

The Warriors are now 0-3 on the season and will face Red Lake County on Wednesday, December 6th in the consolation bracket.

Cass Lake-Beni beat Red Lake County earlier and they will face Fertile-Beltrami.
