PFA Approves $2.34 Million for Mantorville Project

Project will connect city’s sewer system to Kasson treatment plant

ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) approved a grant and loan totaling more than $2.34 million to connect Mantorville’s sewer system to a treatment plant in neighboring Kasson.

The PFA awarded Mantorville a $1.88 million grant from the Point Source Implementation Grant Program and a $469,000 loan from the Clean Water Revolving Fund. The 20-year, 1 percent loan will save the city $82,289 over what it would have paid with a conventional loan.

Mantorville, a city of about 1,200 people in Dodge County, opted to connect its sewer system to Kasson’s facility instead of renovating an existing facility along the Zumbro River in Mantorville. The PFA funding will pay for a sewer lift station and force main. Mantorville will pay Kasson a yearly fee, based on flow levels.

“Communities across Minnesota face serious water quality challenges,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “Last spring, I worked with the Minnesota Legislature to establish a grant program to help cities afford to make water quality improvements. These grants and loans will help the residents of Mantorville to afford the clean water they deserve.”

“The Mantorville-Kasson sewer project represents more than a decade of planning, cooperation and hard work,” said Shawntera Hardy, who chairs the PFA board and is commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. “This project is a great example of how two communities can work together to provide improved services for local residents.”

The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority provides financing and technical assistance to help communities build and maintain infrastructure that protects public health and the environment and promotes economic growth. Since inception in 1987, the PFA has financed $4.5 billion in public infrastructure projects in communities throughout Minnesota. Read more at the PFA website.
