As the Legislature and Gov. Mark Dayton talk, legal bills are mounting

Minnesota’s political leaders walked into a room Thursday to discuss the weighty issues of taxes, the Legislature and budgets — and were under instructions to say nothing about it.

The Minnesota Supreme Court ordered Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and bipartisan legislative leaders into mediation to settle their legal, financial and political differences that bloomed into a constitutional challenge. The conundrum came in the wake of Dayton’s May veto of the House and Senate’s funding.
