Drug Arrest- On August 22, 2017 the Red Lake Department of Public Safety was conducting a routine patrol and discovered three individuals still occupying a residence located near rural Redby that was illegally established. The owner of the residence was previously charged with trespass for the same prior offense.
The owner, identified as Daniel Lee Cook, age 24 along with two other occupants were arrested for trespass and during the course of the investigation, officers discovered illegal drugs and generated probable cause to obtain and execute a search warrant of the illegally established residence and located 46 grams of individually packaged heroin, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, weighing scales and seized vehicles, personal property and over $1,000.00 cash.
Following the discovery of illegal drugs, Mr. Cook was subsequently charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia, in addition to the trespassing charge in Tribal Court and all three individuals were transported to Red Lake Detention.
Public Announcement- Law enforcement wishes to remind community members there is always the likelihood of overdoses due to the possibility of fentynol or other unknown agents present in heroin that circulates amongst addicts. In addition, overdose victims typically do not cooperate with law enforcement in disclosure of their sources. We are once again, reaching out to the community for your assistance in encouraging and getting your loved ones help and turning in local drug dealers. This is a community problem that will take everyone to solve and eliminate. We need to remove the sources and get treatment for those in dire need and destroy supply and demand. This is a battle we are all facing and a war that cannot be won without your help!
