Take a Kid Fishing and Bird House events at Ponemah School last year

Take A Kid Fishing

This past summer those 4th - 8th Grade students enrolled in the Summer School program at Ponemah School had the opportunity to take part in the annual Take A Kid Fishing event, which was held for the 31st year down in Bemidji. Students from Ponemah have attended this event for several years now. It continues to grow in numbers, with 35 students making the trip this year! Two students get paired up and are then assigned a fishing guide for the day. The kids spend the entire day on a lake fishing, before meeting up with everyone at the end of the day at Bemidji State Park for a fish-fry. The group that attended this year's event had a fantastic time and caught a ton of fish!!! The trip was organized and chaperoned by teachers, Terry Belanger & Trinity Lindseth.

I don't have an electronic copy of this one- just a hard copy. I scanned it for you, but you may want to crop before inserting.

Bird Houses

Those students in grades 4-8 had the opportunity to learn and experience a number of different things during Summer School this past June. From the History of Basketball, to Robotics, to Science Experiments and Arts and Crafts, the staff provided a little bit of everything. One of the rotations exposed the students to those birds found specifically on the reservation. Several days were spent just learning more about the Bald Eagle (migizi). The group ended their unit by having the opportunity to construct and then paint there very own birdhouse. The kids had a chance to use a variety of tools to create something to be proud of. This particular rotation was taught by Ponemah teacher, Terry Belanger.
