Suspect in Custody Following High Speed Pursuit

No injuries are reported, with one person in custody, following a crash and pursuit earlier this week that started in Plummer.

Edwin Keith Jones, 44, of Ponemah is being held in the Red Lake Jail, with charges pending in Red Lake County, after a high speed chase Monday through three jurisdictions.

According to the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the incident began with a vehicle that left the scene of a traffic accident at the intersection of Highway #59 and Red Lake County Road #1.

Deputies located the vehicle on a County Road #5 North of Oklee and attempted stop, as a chase ensued with the suspect, Jones, fleeing at speeds that exceeded a hundred miles per hour. Red Lake County Sheriff Mitch Bernstein says the chase went into Pennington County, with an unsuccessful attempt to disable the vehicle with stop sticks before Jones entered the Red Lake Reservation.

Red Lake Tribal Police picked up the chase and were able to stop the vehicle, with Jones taken into custody and booked for DWI. Sheriff Bernstein says Jones is expected to be released to Red Lake County custody after facing charges on the Red Lake Nation.
