Red Lake Police Department: Community Notification and Search Warrant Information

Law Enforcement, Conservation Enforcement, Emergency Medical Responders and Indian Health Service Personnel have recently encountered several medically distressed individuals suspected of using heroin that may be laced with some type of additive that is causing immediate overdose to some users. Although, there have been no reported deaths, the need of immediate medical intervention was required and law enforcement is currently seeking forensic tests to determine the compounds of recent seized heroin. It is possible that some of the heroin may be laced with fentanyl. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more powerful than the related opioid morphine and also substantially more potent than heroin, the DEA states in a handbook on the prescription painkiller.

In addition, individuals who are currently addicted to heroin are asked to seek treatment from Red Lake Chemical Dependency or the Red Lake Indian Health Service (IHS) or the provider of your choice and are reminded that the reversal agent Narcan (Naloxone) is readily available over the counter at Red Lake Indian Health Service. However, keep in mind that Narcan may not work if the heroin additive is resistant to the Narcan and each and every time heroin is used, you are playing "Russian Roulette" by gambling with your life and immediate death may be imminent because there are a variety of unknown additives used.

The public is asked to report any information surrounding the sales of heroin or any type of illegal drugs to law enforcement to prevent the continued harm to addicted community members. Red Lake and Federal Law Enforcement will continue to conduct drug related investigations and search warrant operations to locate and apprehend those responsible for bringing this poison to our community.
