Small child dies in apparent pool drowning in Maple Grove

A small child fell in a pool behind a Maple Grove home and died Sunday morning despite a family member's life-saving efforts, authorities said.

The incident occurred involving a boy under 2 years old in the 7300 block of Orchid Lane, and personnel from the Hennepin County Sheriff's water patrol were called to the scene about 9 a.m., according to Sheriff's Office spokesman Jon Collins.
