DEED Veterans Employment Program Recruits New Member, Assists American Indian Veterans

BEMIDJI – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) – Veterans Employment Program, has added a new member to its team. Alan Roy, local Veteran and White Earth Band member, recently joined DEED’s Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP).

The program assists eligible Veterans find employment through intensive individual career services. Veterans facing barriers to employment, or other employment related challenges will be the focus of Mr. Roy’s work.

A Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and current Army Reserve Officer, Roy will bolster the DVOP program’s efforts to help American Indian Veterans. DEED estimates the statewide unemployment rate for American Indians is approximately 17.4%, and 19.4% in Northwest Minnesota—the state’s highest unemployment disparity.

“I’m very excited to work with our Veterans,” said Roy. “I came home to make a difference, and I hope to make a difference with our Native American veterans. I also hope to reach out to our Tribal Veteran Service Officers to find eligible Veterans seeking employment. All our Veterans have priority of service at all Workforce Centers across Minnesota.”
