Donald Roman Cook, Sr. , 74, of Red Lake, MN died on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Red Lake Humanities Building with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. The wake will begin on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 2 pm at the Red Lake Humanities Building in Red Lake, and will continue until the funeral on Saturday. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji.

Don was born August 1, 1942 in Red Lake, MN, the son of Teddy and Ida (Sayers) Cook. He was raised and educated in Red Lake and later graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 until 1963. He served as a legal representative, lay advocate, and in several other capacities for individuals within the Tribal Court system. Additionally he was involved with the North American Indigenous Games and was a long time supporter of the Red Lake Warriors basketball program for both boys and girls.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Terry) Cook, Felicia (Ricky) Sigana-Greene, Marla Needham and Vicky Neadeau, sons, Donald Cook, Jr and Duane Neadeau,

22 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren,

brothers, Hank and Fabian Cook,

sisters, Ina Mae McNeal, Elaine “Honey” Blanchard, Barbara Cook, Mary Ellen (Cook) Stillday and Sammi Jo Braddock,

special Grandchildren he raised, Amy, Jeff, Kara, Taleigha, Dezman and Danayah Cook, Styles Cook-Stately and Jaden Wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Teddy and Ida Cook, significant other Geraldine Neadeau, brother, Billy Cook, sisters, Vi Donnell, Amelia Carson and Roberta Crowe,

nephews, Joey Pelchet, Mikey McNeal and Darren Cook, and nieces, Mushy Spears, Diane Cook and Carla Brun.
