Bemidji Pioneer: Honoring the elders: Red Lake elders convene for annual gathering

RED LAKE—More than 400 Red Lakers convened Monday for the first day of the band's seventh annual Gathering of Elders.

The two-day event, open to all band members older than 55, mixed information with entertainment in an effort to both honor Red Lake's elders and educate them. Sessions on home health care, living a balanced lifestyle and drug awareness were mixed with a dance competition, a beauty booth and live music.
