Groundbreaking and Blessing Ceremony held at new Red Lake Community Center site - P2

New facility is nothing like the other district's community centers

RED LAKE - A Groundbreaking and Blessing Ceremony was held at new Red Lake Community Center site, located east of the Red Lake Pow Wow Grounds.

About fifty people took part in the ceremony and groundbreaking, including Red Lake Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki Sr., Red Lake Representtives Roman Stately and Bob Smith, Ponemah Representatives Glenda Martin and Gary Nelson, Hereditary Chief Greetings Spears, Economic Director Sam Strong, Red Lake Community Coordinators and other local community members.

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and should be completed by the fall of this year.

The new building will have offices for community coordinators, a large kitchen area, a multi-purpose recreation room, a large community gathering space, a covered outdoor deck and a stage and screen area.

At all the other new community centers there are gym areas, but since there are at least 6 gyms already in Red Lake, the community members decided not to build another one within their center.

According to Sam Strong, the cost of this project is $3 million dollars and Red Lake is the last of the community center projects in the four districts.
