Section 8A Championship– Red Lake 67 vs. Sacred Heart 52
The Red Lake Girls basketball team was hoping to make history Friday night by winning their first ever Section 8A championship.
The Lady Warriors made their dream of going to the State Tournament come true by defeating the defending Section 8A champion East Grand Forks Sacred Heart Eagles in Thief River Falls.
Red Lake jumped out to a 7-0 lead and set the tempo to the game early. Sacred Heart would come back and take their first lead of the game at 10-9 with 11:43 left in the first half.
With the game tied at 18-18, the Lady Warriors closed out the first half on a 18-7 run and took a 36-25 lead into halftime.
Red Lake was never seriously threatened in the second half as they built their lead to as many as sixteen at 41-25.
Grace White had a huge game for the Lady Warriors as she scored 24 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, recorded 8 steals and dished out several assists.
Angel McClain added 14 points for Red Lake as the Lady Warrirors improve their overall record to 24-2 and extend their winning streak to 15 straight.
Jessica Remer led the Sacred Heart Eagles with 16 points as Sacred Heart ended their season at 21-9.
It was the second time this season that Red Lake defeated EGF Sacred Heart with the Lady Warriors winning 81-68 on December 13th at the Northland Holiday Tournament.
Red Lake will play their first game in the State Tournament on Thursday, March 16th against #3 ranked Cromwell-Wright at 5 PM at Mariucci Arena (coverage on 96.7 FM)
