Red Lake advances to 2017 MSHSL Class A Consolation Final with52-43 win over #4 Nevis on Friday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Red Lake (26-5) advances to the 2017 MSHSL Class A Consolation Final with a 52-43 win over #4 Nevis (28-3) on Friday morning at Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University. The Warriors outscored the Tigers 32-18 in the second half.

The Warriors were led by junior Kendall Whitefeather’s 13 points on 5-9 shooting and 2-2 from beyond the arc in the win. Senior Rob McClain, Jr. also chipped in 12 points and six boards while senior Robert Bealieau III added 11 rebounds and four blocks in the win.

Nevis received a game-high 20 points on 8-18 from the floor and 4-11 from deep from senior Griffin Chase while junior Jack Landquist filled the stat sheet with six points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

The Tigers led for much of the first half after early 2-0 and 5-2 leads for the Warriors, but it remained close throughout the opening 18 minutes as their largest lead was just six at 13-7. Red Lake evened it up at 15-15 before a late push, highlighted by a Chase three right before the buzzer, gave Nevis a 25-20 advantage at the half.

Red Lake came out firing in the second half with an 8-0 run to take a 28-25 lead and held onto a tight lead for over five minutes until the Tigers rattled off an 8-0 run of their own to regain the lead at 36-33. The lead wouldn’t last long, however, at the Warriors quickly tied it before taking the lead for good on a Jamie Cook three with 4:40 to play. Red Lake held a two possession advantage nearly the rest of the way before settling with the 52-43 win.

Red Lake will face the winner of Lake Park-Audubon and #3 Central Minnesota Christian on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at Concordia University in the consolation final.
