Laurel Eldine Bird “Lori”, age 69, of Sisseton, SD journeyed to the Spirit World on March 4, 2017 in Fargo, ND.

She was born on November 5, 1947 in Sisseton, SD the daughter of Sheldon William Bird and Sarah Marian Blackthunder Bird.

She graduated from Stephan High School in Highmore, SD. She went to California to attend nursing school and graduated with a nursing degree. Her lifelong career was in nursing. Her last employment was at Riverside Convalescent Hospital in Chico, CA. Nursing was not just a job, it was her life. She loved her patients and treated them with tender love and care. Her patients loved her dearly as well. Upon her retirement, she returned to Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate in 2001 where she enjoyed living her carefree life. She and Sassy (her dog daughter) enjoyed going to the casinos, playing bingo and socializing with everyone. Everyone knew her as the lady with the cute little dog, as Sassy literally went everywhere with her.

She is survived by her son Kirk C. Archambault; two grandchildren; a brother William Bird; sisters Sharon Ward and Cathyann Bird; two adopted sisters Bebba Aquayo and Yolanda Maya; brother-in-law Carl Ward; sister-in-law Doreen Bird; many nieces and nephews and their children; her dog Sassy; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; siblings Veronica Marie Bird, Yvonne Clarice Bird, Allen Joseph Bird and Sandra Jean Bird.

A wake service will be held Thursday, March 9 from 7-9 PM at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center. All-night wake will be held Friday, March 10 beginning at 7:00 PM at the Community Center. Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 PM at the Community Center. Father Jerry, Jesse Larson, John Cloud and Clyde Kampeska will officiate. Interment will take place at the Traditional Burial Grounds in Sisseton, SD.

The Drum Group will be Delmar Bernard, Old Agency Drum Group.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be The Thompson Girls, Linda Crawford, Ramona Richter and members of the Slot and Bingo Departments at the Dakota Connection and Dakota Magic Casinos.

Casket Bearers will be Lucas Roy Friedrichs, Dustin Joseph Friedrichs, Kendrick Sheldon Bird, Lindsay Michael Weston, Aaron Elijah Bird, Josh John Wilson, Mitchell Duwayne Maskewit, Creighton Renville Sr. and Sheldon James Bird.
