ASSISTANT COOK (RED LAKE)

RED LAKE NATION HEAD START PROGRAM

Closing: March 24, 2017 @ 3:00 p.m.

Primary Function:

Assist and prepare nutritious snacks and meals for the children according to established food guidelines; maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen area. Reports to Director, full-time position with benefits, salary; $10.00 hourly ($1.00 increase upon successfully passing probation period).

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

• Assists with food preparation and service

• Assists with the ordering of food and supplies for Head Start

• Ensure proper food storage

• Plan menus to meet nutritional requirements of children served; prepare snacks and meals in accordance with nutritionally balanced menu and number of children served; ensure that all snacks and meals meet USDA requirements

• Maintain and record inventory of food and supplies

• Assist with menu planning and adaptation to meet special needs

• Maintain safe and sanitary environment in the kitchen

• Awareness of food allergies and alternatives

• Wash dishes using appropriate sanitation method

• Work closely with staff to plan and implement appropriate health and nutritional classroom activities

• Eat with children, when time permits, and initiate appropriate conversation with children

• Participate in staff meetings when required

• Maintain confidentiality of personnel information as well as confidential information regarding children, families, staff, etc.

• Attend in-service training as required USDA or CACFP required training annually

• Assist with production records of food purchased and meals served to support the submission of reports for food reimbursement

• Follow established foodservice standards and guideline

• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent. (Attached copy w/Application)

• Two (2) years of experience in large scale institutional cooking

• Knowledge of established regulations and guidelines concerning food/meal preparation and services

• Must possess a Food Handler's Permit/Certificate. (Attached copy w/Application)

• Negative TB test prior to employment

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check
