Murder charges dropped against Austin woman who stabbed attacker

Murder charges have been dropped by Travis County prosecutors against a woman who they say was targeted for rape on a dimly lit street in North Austin in 2014.

Susie Merrill’s claim that she killed the man in self-defense is supported by a slew of evidence, according to Guillermo Gonzalez, a key member of Margaret Moore’s new regime at the district attorney’s office. Merrill, who had been living on the streets for several months, was charged with murder for the Nov. 20, 2014, stabbing death of 26-year-old Mohammed Ali Omer. Omer was found in the 8500 block of Georgian Drive with stab wounds to his head, neck, chest and stomach, according to a police affidavit.
