BEMIDJI—For six hours each weekday, inmates and drug treatment providers gather in the Beltrami County Jail's old kitchen.
The large, windowless area is equipped with a whiteboard, brand-new plastic chairs, computers and workbooks filled with tips and skills meant to guide addicts away from drug use and toward problem solving. Remnants of the room's days as a kitchen remain, with a large sink stationed against one wall and a tile floor creating an echoey space.
