Chase Iron Eyes Among 76 Arrested on Wednesday at Standing Rock Camp

CANNON BALL, NORTH DAKOTA – Some 76 water protectors were arrested on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 when they refused to leave a new encampment that was erected this week. Water protectors have been looking for new places to establish camps because the Oceti Sakowin, the largest camp at Standing Rock, is in a flood plain.

Chase Iron Eyes, from Last Real Indians and a leader of the encampments, was among those arrested on Wednesday at the new camp on a hill where seven tepees were erected. Iron Eyes, an attorney, ran for unsuccessfully for Congress in 2016.
