"Take Back our Community" - Opioid Overdose Prevention and Treatment Seminar held in Red Lake - P14

RED LAKE - The "Take Back our Community" - Opioid Overdose Prevention and Treatment Seminar was held at the Seven Clans Casino Event Center on Thursday, January 12, 2017.

Well attended, the seminar began with breakfast at 7:30 AM, followed by registration and the Opening Ceremonies.

Murphy Thomas, the Facilitator, provided introductions, followed by welcome addressed by Cynthia Gunderson, Red Lake IHS Pharmacy, Dana Lyons, Red Lake Public Safety and Salena Beasley, Red Lake Chemical Health Programs.

Beasley, along with Kellie Monson, FSTHB, gave a presentation on "Helping Hands", followed by a video titled "First Steps to Healthy Babies."

Kailee Fretland, Red Lake IHS, presented an "Intro to Medication Assisted Treatment" at 9:45, followed by the video, "Opioid Overdose Prevention and Treatment - Naloxone."

Dr. Corser presented "Medication Assisted Treatment: Buprenorphine (Suboxone) before the lunch break at noon.

Breakout Sessions were held in the afternoon, including "Caring for Substance Exposed babies," presented by Kari Josefson, APRIN & First Steps to Healthy Babies; What is Vivitrol & Naloxone Training presented by Red Lake IHS; Drug Identification by Red Lake Public Safety; Prevention and Treatment, by Red Lake Chemical Health Programs Director Tom Barrett and Salena Beasley; and Hepatitis C/HIV & Naloxone Training by Red Lake Indian Health Service;

The program was supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Rural Opioid Overdose Reversal (ROOR) grant program, Grant No. D94RH29286-01-00 for $100,000.
