The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians announced Monday that the tribe’s 1,390-acre property known as Camp 4 has been placed into federal trust by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The move makes the parcel part of the Chumash reservation and clears the way for the tribe to begin building 143 houses and a community center on the site.
