Taking back the community: Red Lake agencies address opioid epidemic

RED LAKE-Community members and representatives from a range of Red Lake agencies gathered Thursday to receive information about various aspects of the region's opioid epidemic.

The daylong event, titled "Take Back our Community" and held at the Red Lake Casino Hotel and Events Center, included presentations by Indian Health Service officials, law enforcement representatives and medical professionals. Speakers covered a variety of topics, from general information about opioids to what to do in the event of an overdose.

"In our community we see that this is impacting all of our families, our friends," said Salena Beasley, the project director for Red Lake Chemical Health Programs. "It's affecting our workplaces, it's affecting all the social, economic programs here in Red Lake because of that addiction we're faced with."
