The Mille Lacs County Board indicated they are not inclined to accept support of federal involvement in the mediation process for the conflict resolution of a new law enforcement agreement between the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the county. The board came to that conclusion during the work session following the regular county board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
County Administrator Pat Oman said that he, attorney Randy Thompson and Sheriff Brent Lindgren attended a preliminary mediation meeting last week in St. Paul. Oman did not go into details of the meeting, but mentioned it was basically a “get-to-know-you” meeting. The mediators, he said, asked that the county participate in another “exploratory” conference call with federal agencies and mediators follow up on Friday, Jan. 6. The board declined to participate.
