It's over: Occupiers of Narragansett building claim victory

The week long occupation of a Narragansett tribal administrative building in Charlestown ended late Monday night when tribal council members and other activists agreed to pull out of the office following extensive mediation efforts.

The occupiers, including council members who are at odds with Narragansett Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas, surrendered keys to the building on Route 2.

The withdrawal peacefully resolved a conflict between the occupying faction and other tribal members who were shut out of the building, including some who kept a presence outside, the structure, raising concerns about a potential physical struggle.
