'Crippling storm' potential could impact Christmas travel plans

BEMIDJI -- A hazardous weather outlook was issued for Bemidji and surrounding areas Wednesday with the potential of a significant Christmas weekend storm that could cause travel problems throughout the region.

A big weather system coming through Sunday, Christmas Day, has the “potential to be a genuinely crippling storm” for a large swath of the area, according to WDAY Chief Meteorologist John Wheeler, based in Fargo.

He said it’s still too early to know which specific areas will be impacted by potential blizzard conditions or freezing rain. Some areas could see mixed precipitation, he said.
