No New Year's pay for APS executives

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Top executives at Albuquerque Public Schools will take an unpaid vacation day next month to help address a budget cut that may balloon to $29 million – 4 percent of the district’s total funding.

The 35 administrators will not receive compensation for the New Year’s holiday, celebrated Jan. 2, adding up to about $20,000 in savings.

APS is also under a virtual hiring freeze for non-school personnel, though essential positions like police officers will still be filled.
