Navajo man sentenced to prison for killing friend in drunken fight

SALT LAKE CITY — A Navajo man who killed his best friend during a drunken fight last year was sentenced to 63 months in prison Tuesday.

Raymus Sheldon Whitehorse, 26, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to manslaughter within Indian Country, a felony, for the death of Anthony John Judy, 31. Judge Dee Benson also sentenced him to three years' probation when he gets out of prison.

Whitehorse had been drinking in August 2015 when he went to Judy's home to drink some more. He had a 9 mm handgun with him that he placed on a shelf in the house, according to court documents.
