Pedestrian struck and injured by passing vehicle
On November 30, 2016 at approximately 7:40PM the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center began receiving calls regarding a vehicle blocking Debs Rd NW in Roosevelt Township, which is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Bemidji. These initial calls were then followed by calls from the public reporting a possible impaired driver at that same location. While Deputies were responding to these calls the 911 Dispatch Center then received a third call, reporting a male subject being struck by a passing vehicle at the same location.
Upon Deputies arriving on scene they found an adult male victim had been struck by a passing vehicle. The victim was identified as Shawn Lee May, age 46, of Red Lake, MN. May was transported from the scene by Bemidji Ambulance to the Sanford Emergency Department.
The investigation revealed that impairment was not a factor with the driver that had struck May and that driver was released from the scene. A second vehicle located at the scene that was found to be indirectly involved with this incident.
This incident continues to be investigated by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.
