A winter storm is looming, but still too early to predict snow amounts

(WDAY-TV/WDAZ-TV) We know a winter storm is coming. But as of Tuesday night, it is still too early to forecast what sort of storm our region is in for Thursday night through Friday night. A strong low-pressure system is making its way across the Rockies tonight and will emerge into the Colorado-Kansas region Wednesday. Once it exits the mountains, it is expected to turn northeast and bring a band of heavy snow and strong wind into the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. But we still don't know the precise track and this makes it impossible to accurately forecast snow just yet.

As of Tuesday night, most of the mathematical weather models are trending toward taking the low further south and east, and bringing the heavier snow to areas south and east of the Red River valley, across southwest to northeast Minnesota. It is even possible the low could track even further east, leaving most of our area with little or no snow at all.
