Hy-Vee Announces Plans to Open a New Store in Robbinsdale

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Nov. 15, 2016) — Hy-Vee, Inc. will move forward with the construction of a full-service grocery store in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. The decision was made after Robbinsdale Mayor Regan Murphy requested a meeting and personally met with Hy-Vee Chairman, President and CEO Randy Edeker this morning at the company’s corporate office in West Des Moines, Iowa.

“After meeting with Mayor Murphy and witnessing his tremendous passion, enthusiasm and vision for Robbinsdale and its citizens, it became clear that this is the right time for Hy-Vee to be a part of that community,” said Edeker. “While we still need to work through several details with the owner of the property, our plan is to move quickly with establishing a timeline to move forward with the project.”

This project represents Hy-Vee’s growing commitment to the Twin Cities region, where the company has already opened stores in New Hope, Oakdale, Lakeville, Brooklyn Park and Eagan. In 2017, the company will open new stores in Savage, Cottage Grove and Shakopee. Robbinsdale now joins the list of planned projects in the area.

Hy-Vee announced construction plans last summer for a 10-acre site off 36th Avenue and West Broadway in Robbinsdale after city leaders determined it represented the best way to revitalize the area and bring hundreds of new jobs to the city.

Hy-Vee halted those plans when the proposed site, the former Terrace Theater, caused friction among Robbinsdale residents. Since then, Hy-Vee has received numerous emails and calls from residents who asked the company to revive the project, which represents a several million dollar investment.
