Clinton, Trump battle for Minnesota until the very end
Hillary Clinton was headed for a win in Minnesota on Tuesday, with the state suddenly a vital pickup for the Democrat as she tried to hold off a stunning surge by Republican Donald Trump.
Clinton held a sizable lead in Minnesota around midnight, with about half the votes counted. The state has backed the Democrat for president every four years going back to 1976, but Trump made a late play for support here. Clinton’s margins also didn’t appear big enough to provide much lift for many DFL candidates down the ballot.
Even if she wins Minnesota, Clinton was struggling to hold on in an extremely close presidential race that saw Trump defy expectations and most late polls of the race.
