Tribal Court Employees Expecting Eviction

Tribal court employees were told Friday in a letter from the Bureau of Indian Affairs they were being evicted from the building as of Monday morning.

The letter only gave employees the weekend to pack up and leave, which chief judge John St. Clair says is illegal.

Chief Tribal Judge John St. Clair said in a statement “under tribal law a person being evicted is allowed 8 days after they are served a notice to quit and after 8 days a complaint can be filed for eviction and a hearing not less than ten days so under tribal law there’s automatically about 18 days.”
