MLFAC lacks tribal representation

Mille Lacs Lake is a multi-species fishery. Just as varied as the species of fish in the lake are opinions of the members of the Mille Lacs Fish Advisory Committee on the management of the lake – specifically when it comes to walleye and biology vs. opinion vs. economics.

MLFAC marked the one-year anniversary of the formation of the committee on Thursday, Oct. 13, during the monthly meeting. The original purpose of forming the committee as directed by Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr was to create a panel representing diverse perspectives and interest to provide the DNR with valuable understanding and advice about the lake. The committee was comprised of 17 area representatives, including six fishing representatives, six business representatives, three area county commissioners (one from each county touching the lake), one tribal representative and one academic representative.
