Native artist to work with Bigfork students on collaborative film

High school students at Bigfork School will have the unique opportunity to work alongside digital media artist Jonathan Thunder on Friday, Nov. 4. The workshop, which will accompany Thunder’s exhibit “The Politics of Dreams: Defying Dilettantism” on display at the Edge Center Gallery from Nov. 3 until Dec. 3, will result in the creation of an animated film through student input and guidance from the artist himself.

Thunder is a younger generation painter, digital media artist and filmmaker who currently resides in Duluth, Minnesota. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and received a Bachelor’s Degree in visual effects and motion graphics from the Art Institutes International Minnesota. His work has been featured in many state, regional, national and international exhibitions, as well as in both local and international publications. Combining Native American symbols from his Ojibwe heritage with more contemporary elements from pop culture, Thunder is able to usher in traditional motifs to the present digital world he inhabits.
