Parents, students and educators from Indian communities in Houma came together this evening to talk about planned activities for the Title VII Indian Education program and ways parents can get more involved in their children's schools.
Talking to a packed room at the A.D. Martin Jr. West Park Special Education and Federal Center, Terrebonne Parish School District Coordinator of Indian Education Kirby Verret welcomed guests and expressed pride in seeing so many fathers at the meeting.
"We always wished we had more people behind us trying to reach every Indian student. We need to do everything we can to find innovative ways to get kids involved in schools, and we truly depend on Indian parents having input," Verret said.
