Tennessee student test scores to dip in face of rising grading standard

State education officials are asking parents not to be alarmed by student test scores that will read lower than any standardized test to date.

The TNReady scores for high school grades will be released within the next few weeks. But as part of the process, the state will be increasing the threshold for scoring on grade level. It's part of the state's ongoing move to create tougher grading standards.

"We don’t want educators to be discouraged," Education Commissioner Candice McQueen said. "This is not about students going backward. Instead, this is about having a fuller understanding of where students are. We know educators are working to reach a new baseline."
