Too Little, Too Late, Congressman Paulsen

Paulsen Wants Credit for Finally Disavowing Trump After Revelations the Republican Presidential Nominee Bragged About Sexually Assaulting Women -- But Why Didn’t Paulsen Do That After Any of Trump’s Other Deplorable Statements Against Immigrants, Muslims, and Women?

Washington DC – Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-MN-3) wants voters to finally know that, after some awkward hesitation, he will not be voting for Donald Trump in November after a tape from 2005 surfaced of a then- 59-year-old Trump bragging that he made advances towards a married woman and that his celebrity status has allowed him to get away with sexually assaulting women. Calling it a ‘Profile in Cowardice’, Americans United for Change questioned why it took so long for Paulsen to denounce support for Trump for President considering the mountain of his previous disgusting and disqualifying remarks against immigrants, Muslims, and women.

Brad Woodhouse, President, Americans United for Change: “Excuse me if Congressman Paulsen’s 11th hour exit from the Trump train smacks of political desperation. It rings hollow considering Paulsen kept voters guessing about his support for Trump even after he smeared all Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and “drug dealers” that require a mass “deportation force”, or proposed banning all Muslims from entering the U.S., or mocked a reporter with a disability, or led a racist crusade accusing the President of not being an U.S. citizen, or said women who seek an abortion should be criminalized, or insulted the Gold Star parents of a fallen Muslim-American war hero. Why didn’t Paulsen renounce Trump in response to any of this other extreme and hateful rhetoric? This transparent attempt by Congressman Paulsen to save his political hide is simply too little, too late. It’s obvious Congressman Paulsen is only trying to run away from Trump now that he’s tanking in the polls, and that shows this is about politics not principle. Let’s not forget Paulsen was content with an unapologetic racist and misogynist being the nominee of his party until now (supposedly), and he must own it.”
