Rosales found strength amid trials on reservation

The San Xavier Indian Reservation occupies a scruffy, cactus-laden portion of Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, but it is hardly remote. The cluster of high-rise buildings in downtown Tucson are within sight of the reservation’s eastern border, only 10 miles away.

Each morning at his home on the reservation, Antonio Rosales got into the car with his dad, a garbage man, and they made the 20-minute drive to Tucson Magnet High School, where Rosales was a standout offensive lineman on the football team.

He was preparing for what would become his college career at San Diego State, where he’s started every game this season at right guard.
