SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A federal jury today rejected the claims of 12 Native Americans that state troopers violated their rights in quelling a 1997 protest over taxes.
The nine-person jury ruled in the state's favor on all of the plaintiffs' claims that their constitutional rights were violated when state police arrested 24 people on May 18, 1997, alongside Interstate-81 on the Onondaga Nation.
The jury reached its verdict after three full days of deliberating.
