'In the Dark' team speaks in Bemidji: MPR team looked into disappearance of Jacob Wetterling for podcast

BEMIDJI—For the 27 years between Jacob Wetterling's 1989 disappearance and his murderer's confession this past September, his parents, his community and most who heard about the 11-year-old's abduction focused on one question: what happened to Jacob?

Even before that question was answered, however, Madeleine Baran wanted to focus on a different aspect of the St. Joseph boy's disappearance. Baran wanted to know why, despite the largest manhunt in the country's history, the case remained unsolved.
