Tribes, Wildlife officials seek info on grizzly found shot


KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribes are seeking information about a sow grizzly bear and her cubs that were shot near St. Ignatius.

The Flathead Beacon reports ( ) that tribal wildlife officers trapped two cubs after they were spotted alone calling for their mother on Sept. 5. One of the cubs was found to have been shot. When the mother was ultimately found on Sept. 20, she was found to have been shot and had to be euthanized.

The cubs are being cared for by the Montana Wildlife Center in Helena.
