BEMIDJI -- A movement spreading through the United States officially makes its way to Bemidji on Monday.
During the City Council meeting, starting at 6 p.m., Bemidji Mayor Rita Albrecht will read a proclamation announcing Oct. 10 to be recognized as Indigenous Peoples'/ Treaty Day.
For several years, advocates have been asking the city to honor Native Americans on the second Monday in October rather than Christopher Columbus, who is recognized with the federal Columbus Day holiday.
